The Original El Taco
Our visits are so frequent, our server Kenneth delivers our drinks as he seats us, and always reminds us to request corn tortillas. The smoked chicken taco is the bomb.
With multiple locations throughout the metro area, this small local chain cranks out the best skinny margaritas and dependable tacos and platters.
Chef-driven Mexican serving unusual tacos like those filled with fried chicken hearts; go for the extra-thick house made chips and great guacamole.
El Taco Veloz
Buford Highway (and other locations) taco shack serving authentic tacos and sugary horchata. I hope you know some Spanish.
Although more Tex than Mex, this neighborhood favorite has been serving stellar Southwestern cuisine for over 15 years…famous for their spicy fried chicken.
Little 5 Points original Mexican dive bar, serving excellent quesadillas including several vegetarian options.
Ford Fry’s wildly popular Mex-Tex spot at the Krog Street Market. Try the pozole verde and puffy taco dinner.
Tin Lizzy’s Cantina
Another successful small local chain with a killer menu of decidedly unMexican tacos and the best specialty margaritas in town like the Thai version with fresh basil and a splash of coconut milk.
The only national chain to make any of my lists; serving ultra-thin chips, smoky salsa, and roasted jalapenos that can set your mouth on fire.
Our newest Mexican arrival, it makes my list more for the decor than the food, although tacos, fajitas, and margaritas are all tasty.
