LC and I got 2017 off to a healthy start with New Year’s Day brunch at True Food Kitchen. Occupying an entire corner of Lenox Square, half the walls are windows allowing ample sunshine into the open space. Natural wood tables are paired with white cafe chairs. Vegital shades of green and orange add an appropriate dose of organic freshness.
True Food Kitchen’s brunch menu features more than just eggs. Salads, smoothies, sandwiches, pizzas, and Asian-inspired bowls round out the healthy offerings. We started with coffees and shared a vibrant tonic made with freshly juiced apple, carrot and ginger.
LC ordered the Garden Scramble, a hearty combination of scrambled eggs with tender roasted winter vegetables like butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, smoked onions, and cauliflower florets. The scramble was tossed with chopped chicken sausage patties and Swiss chard, then finished with a little grated smoked gouda.
Despite the multitude of yummy brunch dishes on True Food Kitchen’s menu, I couldn’t resist the Smashed Avocado Toast with organic sunny side up eggs, sprinkled with black sesame seeds and thyme with a bit of arugula and grated smoked gouda on top. I added chicken sausage patties on the side, made with lots of sage. As always, I forgot to request the toast extra toasted, but the flavors were fantastic nonetheless.
