Come and Compete or Just Come to Eat!
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of food, fun and live entertainment at the 5th annual Brookhaven Chili Cookoff. This neighborhood festival takes places on Saturday, October 8th from 12:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Brookhaven Park, which is walking distance from Marta.
This year two up-and-coming Atlanta acts, Chelsea Shag and Sailing to Denver will be taking the stage at the festival. DJ Suspense will be spinning in between bands as well as acting as the event’s MC.
Hailing from Canada, 24 year old Chelsea Shag has taken the Atlanta music scene by force with her Fender Stratocaster and her smooth, jazz inspired vocals. Atlanta based Sailing to Denver is a unique Southern Americana act, set to release their third record sometime in the fall of 2016.
This year’s event will feature more than 75 restaurant and amateur cooking teams all competing for bragging rights, plaques, medals, cash and prizes totaling over $2,500.00. Each team will be cooking up chili and/or Brunswick Stew that can be tasted and voted on by ticket-goers in the People’s Choice Award which crowns the festival’s favorite chili. An all-star line-up of judges will determine the winners of the best chili and Brunswick stew team competitions.
If you don’t want to sit on the sidelines, you can sign up your team by entering your recipe into the competition and let the judges and the public see what you got! Other festival activities include cornhole, a kid zone and great food from Atlanta food trucks if you have had your fill of chili.
A limited amount of chili tasting spoons are on sale. A portion of the proceeds benefit Atlanta Fundraising Foundation whose latest project is aimed at keeping impaired drivers off the streets of Atlanta.
