STK…Sexy Steak in Midtown

1

STK AtlantaA white brick wall studded with white plaster horns greets visitors at STK in midtown. Sexy bartenders’ heads seemed dangerously close to them as they mixed cocktails. The horns are a signature design element of the brand, the midtown store being one of nine steakhouses nationwide owned by The One Group, in addition to other upscale concepts like nearby Cucina Asellina.

On a recent blustery night, LC and I were invited to dine there with friends. Seated in the dimly lit lounge area, DW selected a favorite bottle of wine, Jordan cabernet. Buttery buns were delivered as we decided on a few starters.
Shrimp Rice Krispies at STK
An appetizer called Shrimp Rice Krispies would have been delightful had we understood its presentation. Our server placed a bowl on the table and without explanation poured lobster bisque on top. We realized afterwards that the contents of the bowl beneath the tiger prawns were probably crackling and popping, but none of us could hear it. LC and I tried to eat the dish with our forks as no spoons were provided.
Duck Canneloni at STK
My love affair with duck continued with the duck cannelloni, two baked pasta shells stuffed with savory duck confit and grilled leeks, then paired with Swiss chard, and sweet dried cherries. A second bottle of Jordan was ordered but never arrived, the gaffe rectified by a bottle of Heitz Cellars courtesy of the manager.

As we often do, LC and I decided to split an entree, a 10 oz. filet with an a la carte pricetag of $43. A variety of decadent toppings and sauces were offered for an additional charge, from a slab of foie gras to truffle butter, but we kept it simple, dipping tender pieces of the medium-rare steak in a ramekin of natural jus. We ordered two sides to share, a sweet corn pudding with a displeasing congealed texture, and a wonderful rendition of Brussels sprouts roasted with bacon. That bottle of Heitz was disappearing fast.
Dessert at STK
No meal is complete without something sweet! We ended our evening with a decadent apple bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream and a crispy apple chip.

Although the vibe is somewhat slick and corporate, STK is a sexy date spot that will tempt your tastebuds…and more.
