The Tea Bird at Victory Sandwich Bar

Victory Sandwich Bar has a cult following, from its Jack and Coke slushies to the selection of tiny $4 sandwiches packed with flavor. While the original location was razed to build another mixed-use development in Inman Park, the owners took their concept to a cozy little spot in Decatur.

Among the sandwiches offered is the Tea Bird, a petite panini with chicken, ghost pepper jack cheese, tomato, lettuce, and sweet tea mayo. Note it’s ghost pepper jack…the hottest pepper on the planet. Our server assured me that, although the heat of each pepper varies, the sandwich is indeed quite spicy. Excited about my hot little sandwich, I ordered a Tecate to quench the anticipated fire.

My Tea Bird did not disappoint! The spiciness of the ghost pepper cheese was tempered by a hint of sweetness from the sweet tea mayo. Perfect for me, but surely too hot for the delicate masses.
