Summer afternoons and margaritas go hand in hand, so LC and I were excited by an invitation to meet a group of friends in Buckhead at Tin Lizzy’s Cantina. Their bright yellow umbrellas were a bittersweet reminder that patio season was nearing an end.
We took up residence at the bar inside and ordered some chips and dips while we waited for a table on the patio. LC got a skinny margarita and the bartender recommended I try a Thai margarita made with lime juice, coconut milk and fresh basil. It was refreshing and subtly sweet, quite possibly the best specialty margarita I have ever tasted.
Soon we were seated on the patio where local musician Matt Griswold (in photo) was performing an acoustic set. We devoured what remained of the chunky guacamole, nice ‘n’ soupy cheese dip, and chips while we checked out Tin Lizzy’s unique menu of skillets, nachos, salads and tacos with decidedly un-Mexican fillings like the Lowcountry Taco (2013 taco contest winner) made with grilled shrimp, chorizo, corn, diced red peppers and tater tots.
Tacos are notoriously unphotogenic and Tin Lizzy’s are no exception. LC tried three, BBQ Pork, the Lowcountry described above, and the Southern Comfort made with grilled chicken, goat cheese, grilled onions, fried pickles, and BBQ sauce. Another round of margaritas arrived plus some tequila shots.
I ordered two tacos, the Santa Fe Steak and Spicy Tilapia. All of our selections were creative and delicious. Our only complaint was that Tin Lizzy’s doesn’t offer corn tortillas. All of the tacos are served on flour or wheat tortillas…a situation that could be easily remedied.
Everyone enjoyed the food, drinks, and entertainment. I just wish Summer would never end.
