Sound Table….Beats & Booze

White Tiger's Milk at Sound TableSound TableFour days after officially opening, I finally stopped by Darren, Jeff (both of Top Flr), and Karl’s new lounge/bar/restaurant Sound Table on Edgewood. The ubercoolness oozed out the door as I approached….did I need a password to get in? Yes. No worries, I had it.

Upstairs I paid a visit to Shane and his sous chef Andrew. They were exhausted with a capital X at the end of dinner service. I can’t wait to eat there. The menu is very Asian-centric (although clearly not Laotian). The space is minimal with its exposed brick and slat wood furnishings, cozy only due to the subtle candlelight.

At the bar downstairs I ordered a White Tiger’s Milk, off their highly creative cocktail list, made of Applejack, apricot liqueur, sugar, orange bitters and egg white, shaken until frothy and served in a martini glass. Delicious. B was on her way, along with MS.

By the time they arrived I was on my second cocktail. Darren was seated next to me and recommended the Golden Ticket….another drink with egg white. Ever since Stephanie Ruhe’s amazing cocktails at The Mansion, I have loved frothy egg white cocktails. This one features vodka, vanillla, sugar, and nutmeg. Again, delicious.

The DJ’s, flown in from NY, were kickin’ it. Suddenly there was a crowd and we made our way to the back deck to smoke and chat.

MS bought a round and I decided to stray away from the froth and try a cocktail in the “Tiki!” section of the drink list….Kick the Sheets made with Prunier d’Orange cognac, white rum, lime, and sugar. My third drink in a martini glass. Other tiki drinks include the popular ’70′s drink, Mai Tai, and my personal poolside favorite, Pina Colada.

The trend toward herb infused syrups and prohibition era liquors is in full force at Sound Table. From orange bitters to absinthe, cocktail connoisseurs will rejoice about their impressive list. There is a limited selection of wine and a dozen or so unusual beers, none of them familiar to me (and that’s saying a lot). You will not be having a PBR here.

Having to work today, I made the difficult yet brilliant decision to get the fuck out while I could. Otherwise it would have turned into an all-nighter. Next visit will find me upstairs with a fork in my hand rather than martini glass!
